Spumone

Spumone is a video game framework designed for learning college level engineering. The goal is to make some of the hard work in learning fundamental engineering science concepts and problem solving techniques much more engaging and effective than traditional textbook homework problems. Spumone is being developed and tested at Northern Illinois University.

Game-Based Learning

According to Ottenbreit-Leftwich and Brush (2018), what possible impact upon engineering students can Spumone have on learning engagement? Identify and discuss (in your own words) three to five learning engagement principles based upon their writings. Each principle identified should consist of a 150–250 word explanation, as a comment to this blog. Remember to use proper APA-style formatting for in-text citations and references in your writing.

1) Models and Simulation for Education According to New Media Consortium's Horizon Report, game-based learning has become an emerging technology who has been in growth for three consecutive years. Games and simulations have proven to be a useful resource for the learner, to practice and/or learn from complex subjects, to understand complex models, and/or to tackle complex challenges that might be difficult to solve without technology. Such game simulations like the one depicted in the video, aid the learner in understanding difficult subjects, perhaps subjects that might be considered, challenging, abstracts, bored or dull. Models, simulations, and complex systems in gaming, can aid in a "way to improve our ability to understand these complex systems in more sophisticated ways" according t…
